We set off early in the morning to explore Liuhe, north of the Yangtze River in Nanjing. At nine o’clock, we arrived at Guizi Mountain Basalt Column Forest. Millions of years ago, volcanic lava cooled and formed dense vertical basalt pillars. Standing among the stone forest, you can feel the immense power of ancient geological movements preserved on this land.
By noon, we travelled to Yeshan National Mine Park. Known as the cradle of ancient Chinese iron smelting, it boasts a mining history stretching over 3,000 years. Vintage narrow-gauge rails wind through woods. The old sightseeing train creaks forward, echoing the industrial stories of the past. We wandered the retro mining old street and enjoyed authentic local farmhouse lunch.
In the afternoon, we reached Jinniu Lake, the largest artificial lake in Nanjing and the birthplace of the world-famous folk song Jasmine Flower. Clear blue water stretches between rolling hills. White sailboats drift gently on the lake. Walking along the waterside trail or taking a lake cruise, visitors can fully embrace peaceful mountain-and-lake scenery. Don’t miss the creamy fish head soup, made with fresh wild fish from the lake.
We stayed by the lakeside to await sunset. Golden glow spreads over the water, and soft wind carries the faint melody of Jasmine Flower.Within one day, Liuhe connects primeval geological wonders, industrial heritage and graceful lakeside scenery. This journey leads you to discover quiet beauty hidden in northern Nanjing.
